Surgery

Spay and Neuter

Spaying your female cat or dog is a surgical procedure done to prevent pregnancy.

There are many benefits to having your pet sterilized, so our practice will recommend this procedure before your female's first heat cycle.

Spaying will protect her against bacterial infections, reproductive tract diseases, and several types of cancer. Your female furry friend will live a longer and healthier life.

There will be no messy heat cycles, and problematic instinctive behaviors are eliminated.

In our practice, the staff work as a team. A skilled veterinarian performs the surgery while qualified technicians follow strict protocols to ensure her comfort and safety. We strive to include you in this process. Upon discharge, you will know how to aid in her recovery.

Neutering your cat or dog is a surgical procedure done to make them unable to produce offspring.

There are many benefits to having your pet sterilized, so our practice will recommend this procedure between 6 months and one year of age.

Neutering will protect him against testicular cancer and minimize the risk of prostate disease. Your male furry friend will live a longer and healthier life.

Instinctive behaviors like roaming and spraying will be reduced or eliminated.

Pain Management

Your pet's pain management plan is specific to their condition, age, and general health. Benefits must outweigh the risks.

NSAID medication most effectively reduces pain, improves mobility and quality of life in humans and pets alike.

Adverse side effects of NSAID use in veterinary patients include vomiting, loss of appetite, depression, and diarrhea. These will resolve with discontinuation of the drug and appropriate treatment. More serious side effects are rare but may include stomach/intestinal ulcers with possible perforation, kidney and liver failure, and death.

Cats cannot beak down NSAIDs because they do not have the enzymes needed and have a higher risk of developing side effects, especially when given over extended periods. An average-sized cat will not tolerate a single acetaminophen tablet. Veterinary NSAIDs have not been approved for long-term use in cats in the USA.

Each pet is unique. Our goal is always to reduce pain and increase wellness. Some animals do not tolerate NSAIDs. Our veterinarian can provide you with advice about other available options.

If you see negative side effects, STOP giving the drug and call your veterinarian immediately. Drug safety is monitored by adverse reaction reports to prevent further problems for our pets.

Patient Monitoring

A veterinarian technician is assigned to your pet for the duration of the procedure and into recovery. They will continuously monitor vital parameters, such as heart rate, respiration, blood oxygen levels, and blood pressure and temperature.

Your family will be supported throughout the postoperative period to ensure your pet can return to a happy, active lifestyle.
