An incision is made just in front of the scrotum and the testicle is exteriorized through that incision. The blood supply and spermatic cord are clamped and tied off using suture to eliminated bleeding. The testicle is them surgically removed and the procedure is repeated on the other side. The underlying tissues and skin are sutured closed in several layers.
*The difference in cats is that the scrotum is shaved, surgically prepped and an incision is made over each testicle. The testicle is exteriorized, clamped and the blood supply and spermatic cord are tied together in a square knot – the testicle is then surgically removed. No sutures are placed and the scrotum is left to close on its own.*
