Routine Dental Care and Extractions

Dental care is an extremely important part of your pets overall health. Not only is dental disease painful, if it's left untreated toxins from the mouth can spread from the blood stream to the internal organs. This can cause issues with the heart, liver kidneys and more.

Signs that your pet may need professional dental care

  • Bad breath
  • Bleeding gums
  • Difficulty eating
  • Loose/missing teeth
  • Tartar/plaque build up
  • Sensitivity around head/mouth
  • Excessive salivation

If any of the above signs are noted, it is recommended that you make an appointment to determine the best treatment for your pet.

About Your Pet's Dental Cleaning and Extractions

All professional dental cleanings are performed under general anesthesia, this ensures we are able to do the most thorough job possible. While here your pet will be under the care of one of very talented veterinarians and monitored by a licensed veterinary technician throughout the entire surgery and recovery to make certain your pet is safe at all times.

Steps involved in the dental cleaning

  1. Digital Radiographs - Are used to exam teeth above and below the gum line for dental disease, abscesses, fractures and more.
  2. Charting and Probing - Is an in depth record of any abnormalities found with the teeth, gums and oral cavity.
  3. Ultrasonic Scaling - Is the process of removing plaque and tartar from above the gum line.
  4. Root Scaling - Is the process of removing calculus from below the gum line.
  5. Polishing - Smooths any defects, removes any residual plaque and helps prevent the reattachment of new plaque.
  6. Irrigation - Removes any leftover debris and bacteria from the oral cavity.
  7. Extractions - Are performed by a licensed veterinarian when diseased or irreparable teeth are found during the radiographs and oral exam.
